meta/morph

Augmented Reality & Inflatable

A public artwork asking viewers to ground themselves in the present moment-space to investigate what exists beyond what the material eye can see, as part of VMF Winter Fest.

meta/morph (2022)

I was invited to be an artist for the 2022 VMF Winter Arts Fest, where I had the opportunity to showcase meta/morph ā€“ an augmented reality and inflatable installation exhibited in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. The intention was to design an experience that existed in the material world, but was extended and continued in the digital, unbeknownst to viewers until activated.

Something Iā€™d been thinking about at the time was how the digital and the material are often seen as opposing extremes of a binary, but eschewing that binary can uncover the fluidity of our reality: the symbiosis of the digital and the material existing in parallel, offering space to experiment, uncover, iterate, redefine and dream in the in-between.

With both the material and digital component working in tandem, meta/morph asked viewers to ground themselves in the present moment-space to investigate what exists beyond what the material eye can see, and how they can use the in-between to inform their relationships to the self, to others and to the future.
